One of the most important skills that an Internet Affiliate Marketer should develop is the ability to write an effective ad copy. Although having some talent does help, one need not be natural born writer to create great advertising copy. However all good copy writers follow a formula, which works regardless of whether you are a natural writer or feel totally intimidated by the idea of creating your own advertising copy. This copy writing formula applies to a variety of situations including:-
- In your opt in page and sales page copy
- In your classified Ads
- In your email follow-ups and newsletters
Every time the Internet Affiliate Marketer needs to communicate with others and get his message across effectively, he will be able to count on this formula. The steps for this formula are as follows:
1. Asking the Right Questions
In order to write effective advertising copy, the Internet Affiliate Marketer should know his market, know his product and know what the prospects in his market really want to buy, not just what he wants to offer . He should be able to address this by answering the following questions.
a) What is the problem?
b) Is there a solution
c) How does the product solve the problem?
d) Why is this product the best solution to the problem?
e) How will the customers lives be improved once they consume the product?
f) What is the next step they should take?
The answers to these questions help generate the foundation of your advertisement.
2. Start thinking AIDA
AIDA is an acronym that stands for Attention, Interest, Desire , Action. Each of these elements creates great advertising copy. AIDA also represents a logical flow of how the process of persuasion works in advertising:
a) Grab the prospect Attention With an interest raising- headline.
b) Maintain the prospect of Interest - With additional copy designed to support the claims made in the headline.
c) Create Desire for more information, for ownership e.t.c.
d) Make a Call to Action- compel the prospect to follow through on the offer by clicking on a link, signing up for a news letter or purchasing a product e.t.c
The AIDA formula is used to write the initial shorter advertisement while other important tasks to address such as building credibility, highlighting the product benefits and addressing objections are covered though follow- up emails, sales letters e.t.c.
3. Build A Platform
Every good advertisement needs a platform to spring from and set the tone for the rest of the copy. This role is played by your headline. Your headline is the premise of the entire Ad. It focuses and defines your angle and also sets up
your tone and approach.
All copy flows from the headline. One needs to be able to support the claims of his headline, and those claims must spring from a logical premise. The Internet Affiliate marketer should not create an ad copy with a flashy, hyped -up headline that has nothing to do with the rest of the ad copy.
Starting with a solid platform makes the rest of the writing process much easier.
4. Outline your Ad Copy Structure
The Actual element of the Ad copy Structure should resemble the following outline:-
I. Headline - To grab attention and initial interest
II. Sub headline (Optional) - To maintain interest and lead prospect into main body to the sales latter.
III. Body- This should be summarized to include
- Introduction of the problem
- Raising the promise of a solution
- Describe the Solution, focusing on benefits
- Make the offer
IV. Provide a sales or Affiliate Link
V. PS (optional) Encourages the prospect to take action once more
VI. Signature- this is a byline or contact information.
The above represents the condensed basic structure of nearly every affiliate marketing sales letter. It also represents the basic structure of most opt-in or lead capture page offers when you shorten the copy and introduce a
lead- capture form in place of a sales Link.
The four steps described above represent the fundamental ingredients necessary for writing an effective Ad copy. Other considerations may include the tone and language of the Ad Copy , but these are secondary. Majority of good Ad copy writers use this formula for successful Internet Affiliate Marketing Business.

Preselling can be considered as an under -the-radar method of sales that prime your prospect to become a customer .It is the process that allows you to overcome the prospects objection and overwhelm him with benefits. It makes buying your product the obvious choice. In preselling you are essentially softening the target so that you can persuade him or her easily when you ask for the sale. The following facts illustrate the importance of preselling for your Internet Affiliate Marketing success.
1) Most prospects do not make a purchase when they first visit a site. In fact it may take several repeat visits from the prospect before you get the sale. This can be due to any number of reasons. The prospect may be short on time, may be viewing your site from work or may be simply distracted by other factors.
2) People generally dislike being Sold to in the obvious ways. It is important to keep in mind that your potential customer sees dozens of offers per day. He is always bombarded with spam, banner ads and other intrusive media. Educating and informing the prospect by giving something of value before asking for the sale goes a long way. This is particularly relevant in online marketing.
3) Preselling =Following Up. Following up is a proven way to increase conversion. If your prospect visits your site and you do not follow up with him, your chance of making a sale are very low. When you do follow up, you have the ability to keep your offers in front of him and keep the lines of communication open so that you can earn his trust and sway him to your recommendations.
4) Better you capture the prospect (as an affiliate) before the Merchant does. One of the worst things you can do as an affiliate is to send the prospect to the merchants sales page before you have captured his name and e-mail address! It is likely that the merchant will end up capturing that persons details instead. In addition if that merchants sales copy is less effective than yours, you will end up losing the prospect.
Preselling guarantees you the maximum odds for optimizing all the elements of your Internet Affiliate Marketing campaign, from your traffic budget to the integrity of your tracking data. There are three basic but crucial steps in preselling. These are:
1. Building a Landing Page.
2. Collecting e-mail addresses.
3. Sending your follow up Material.
1) Building a landing page:-
The landing page is the first page your prospect ever sees, and for this reason you need the most solid and attention grabbing copy that you can. Your job on the landing page is to ensure the prospects attention immediately and get him interested and make sure he keeps on reading! Your task is to capture the maximum number of prospects into your sales funnel and turn them into rabid, ready-to-buy subscribers. E-mail opt-in lists are proven sales generators for Internet Affiliate Marketers. It is far more effective to capture your visitors onto a list and follow up with them about the product than it is to try and convert them on the front page of your site.
2) Collecting E-mail addresses:-
As stated above the job of your landing page is to acquire the prospects e-mail addresses. To do this, you need to acquire a tool called an Autoresponder. An Autoresponder is a powerful list management software program, hosted either on your website or on the site of the autoresponder service provider. It enables you to capture the contact information of your website visitors so you can keep in touch with them and keep them interested in your products and business. An Autoresponder allows you to send automatic replies to everyone who joins your list. You can also schedule periodic messages and time them to broadcast by the hour, day, week or month. The Autoresponder provides you with a subscription box, where the prospects will enter their name and e-mail address.
In order to convert more prospects to subscribers, you need to sell your list benefits effectively in your copy and offer prospects some bait in exchange for joining your list. This should be something of value such as a free e-book download, a piece of software or an informative e-course.
3) Sending your follow-up material.
Your follow-up material should be exclusive content that the subscriber cannot find anywhere else. You should send him periodic mailings that sync with the subject matter of the product you are promoting. Your follow-up material should be aimed at educating and informing the prospect. There should be no hard sales tactics going on here. You are attempting to build desire, and taking the time to create trust and credibility so that the prospect feels more comfortable purchasing from you.
The last step in the presell chain is the moment that the customer decides he has been effectively swayed and reaches for his credit card to buy the product through you. This is the moment that all internet affiliate marketers dream about. If you want to win in the internet affiliate marketing arena, you need to create landing pages, collect e-mail addresses, and work the system of preselling to your prospects. Your commissions will skyrocket, and you will wonder why you ever did things any other way.
